January roundup

The weather to start 2025 could easily give you the blues, but we were far from upset at Chelmsford earlier this month when Blue Eclipse broke his maiden over seven furlongs.

The three-year-old colt had shaped promisingly on debut in November, and showed the experience had not been lost on him when coming through with a determined effort to score by a head.

It was a first winner for his owners, Purple’Nblues, which was great for them to enjoy and hopefully he can give them more enjoyable days out this season.

We have not been sending too many runners out this month, with limited options on the all-weather, but over in Dubai our team have been in action. Ziggy’s Dream finished a creditable fourth in the Group 2 Cape Verdi. It was a messy race, and she did well in the circumstances to finish as she did.

This Friday, January 31, we have two runners at Meydan, with Naana’s Diamond set to contest a seven furlong conditions race, while Cairo will tackle 1m2f again the Group 3 Dubai Millenium Stakes.

Hopefully it won’t be long until warmer weather starts to arrive and we can start thinking in earnest about the upcoming turf season. Our team of two-year-olds are shaping up nicely, they have been heading up the grass and doing well and they look an exciting bunch. We will learn more about them in February as they continue to be put through their paces and fingers crossed there might be a star or two of the future lurking among them!
