It’s all systems go here in the yard and for Newmarket as a whole, as the final weekend of March marked the start of the turf season, and now it’s time to really get going and see what the year will bring.
We are going into the new season in good form, with the horses running well. Yard favourite Mashaan made no mistake when returning to his beloved Lingfield and scooted clear, although the handicapper has rather made him pay for winning nicely, hitting him with a slightly undeserved 9lb rise.
Up at Newcastle, Aspire To Glory demonstrated tenacity and versatility in equal measure, knuckling down well to win over seven furlongs, and giving owners Coral Racing Club a second trip to the winner’s enclosure in as many months.
Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting is the traditional curtain-raiser to the Flat turf, and Sucking Diesel marked the occasion by being our first two-year-old runner of the season in the Brocklesby Stakes.
She was far from disgraced in eighth, having shown good pace to take the field along before tiring late, and hopefully she can put that experience to good use when next seen. We have a couple of other juveniles set to be in action early in April, and will be looking to hit the ground running.
The start of the turf season also marks the start of the breeze-up sales and we will be busy looking to source some more exciting two-year-olds for the season ahead. We can cater to any budget, so if you want to have a horse in training with us, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
