Having announced himself with a pretty eye-catching effort at Hamilton in late September, Solvency confirmed he’s a talent to look forward to by taking apart a competitive nursery at Southwell.
That debut run was notable for how he was able to get out of trouble despite inexperience, whereas his Southwell success showcased how much natural speed he possesses as he never saw another rival from the get go. It was impressive how easily he went clear of a group of experienced handicappers, and marked him down as potentially one for the early-season three-year-old handicaps at Chester and York.
He has always shown plenty of ability in his work at home and we can really look forward to seeing how far he can go. He is another success story for us when it comes to products of Rigsdale Stud, who also bred our dual black type-placed filly Lexington Belle.
Middleham Park Racing’s Ziggy’s Ariel (above) emulated her stablemate Ziggy’s Dream in winning a Wolverhampton nursery in November. She benefitted from a positive ride on this occasion, much as she had done when breaking her maiden on her second start at Hamilton back in July, and connections will be hoping she can progress in the manner Ziggy’s Dream has in 2024! A speedy filly with a good attitude, we can look forward to a busy campaign with her next season.
Ziggy’s Dream herself is now in Dubai preparing for a winter campaign with the G2 Cape Verdi over the mile her main aim. Although she is as yet untried over the trip she has suggested in a couple of her runs this season that it would be well worth a go at a very flat, fair track like Meydan, and the fillies’ races there can often be a little light when it comes to depth.
She is joined in the Emirate by Cairo, whose Windsor effort was some way short of his best but did come on his first try at 10 furlongs and on soft ground. He will start his mini winter season in the G2 Al Rashidiya on Friday, and will likely head to the Doha race he was 2nd in for Aidan O’Brien last February. His Goodwood run would give him an outside chance of being competitive, as clearly would his Irish 2000 Guineas second to Paddington.
