Winners of all ages keep the scoreboard ticking

It’s been great to have a variety of winners over the past fortnight via the efforts of Awj, Ziggy’s Dream, and most recently Swatch this weekend.

Awj went over to Saint-Cloud, France for a pretty valuable claimer and took apart a field of mostly newcomers under Mickael Barzalona. She is speedy and early and having shown promise on her debut she was sent off favourite, and though confident she would be sharper than these I’m not sure any of us expected her to win in the manner she did! She was claimed and stays in France, and she is unlikely to be the last we take over there in the near future.

Though not winning Naana’s Diamond showed plenty on her debut up at Thirsk behind a seemingly well-regarded winner of Karl Burke’s. The pair came clear of a well-backed one in third and with ours almost all needing the run it was a very pleasing first experience. She is the first to run in the colours of new owner John Hall, and we were delighted she could run so well for him with family and friends there trackside to see it.

The three-year-olds were represented by another useful effort from the multiple winner Ziggy’s Dream at Wolverhampton in mid-April. A filly who would’ve won the Lily Agnes with a clean run, she is now 3-3 over six furlongs on the all weather and she is declared to take her chance in the Listed Chelmer Stakes at Chelmsford on Thursday. It’ll take another step up for her to be in the three but we think she is worthy of a shot at some black type for her owners Middleham Park Racing.

Most recently it was really pleasing to get Swatch’s head in front on just his second start for us. Seven furlongs on very bad ground was too much for him on his reappearance, but having got that out of the way going back to a mile in less energy-sapping conditions was much more to his liking. He’s always shown good ability in his home work and took a long time to get over his gelding operation at his previous yard, so hopefully we have a nicely-handicapped horse to work with now he’s shown something like his ability.
